আমাদের একটি স্বাধীন জাতি হিসেবে গড়ে উঠার পেছনে কতগুলো খুবই গুরুত্বপূর্ণ দিনের অবদান রয়েছে। এই দিনগুলোতে ঘটে যাওয়া ঘটনার থেকেই আমাদের স্বাধীনতা সংগ্রাম বেগ পায় আর এক সময় আমরা স্বাধীনতা পাই। সেই সব দিনগুলোর মধ্যে একটি হলো ২১ ফেব্রুয়ারি। বর্তমানে এই দিনটি জাতীয় শহীদ দিবস এবং আন্তর্জাতিক মাতৃভাষা দিবস হিসেবে পালিত হয়। কিন্তু এই আন্তর্জাতিক মর্যাদার পেছনে রয়েছে ত্যাগের এবং গৌরবের গাথা।

আগের দিনগুলিঃ

১৯৪৭ সালে দেশ বিভাজনের পর দক্ষিণ-পূর্ব এশিয়া তে নতুন দুইটি দেশ এর জন্ম হয়ঃ ভারত এবং পাকিস্তান। বিভাজন হয় মূলত ধর্মের ভিত্তিতে। হিন্দু সংখ্যাগরিষ্ঠ দেশ হয় ভারত এবং মুসলিম সংখ্যাগরিষ্ঠ দুইটি ভাগ পাকিস্তান হিসেবে এক দেশে পরিণত হয়। পাকিস্তানের দুইটি অংশে ধর্মের মিল থাকলেও অন্যান্য বিষয়ে ছিল অনেক পার্থক্য আর ছিল বৈষম্য। পূর্ব পাকিস্তান ছিল অনেক দিক থেকেই বঞ্চিত ছিল। সামরিক দিক থেকে পূর্ব পাকিস্তানকে পশ্চিমা শাসকরা বঞ্চিত রেখেছিল, সাথে যোগ্য চাকরি থেকেও বঞ্চিত রেখেছিল। অনেক ক্ষেত্রে পশ্চিম পাকিস্তান পূর্ব পাকিস্তানের উপর নির্ভরশীল ছিল। তবে লভ্যাংশ কখনই সঠিকভাবে বন্টন হয় নি। বঞ্চনাও চলতে থাকে।

পশ্চিমা শাসকদের দাম্ভিকতা আরও বাড়তে শুরু করেছিল। ভাষা ও সংস্কৃতি পূর্ব পাকিস্তানে ছিল বাংলা কেন্দ্রিক। আর পশ্চিমাদের মূল ভাষা ছিল উর্দু। কিন্তু ক্ষমতার কেন্দ্রস্থানে হওয়ার কারণে পশ্চিমারা কোনভাবেই বাংলাকে পূর্ব পাকিস্তানের ভাষা হিসেবে মানতে পারছিল না। ঢাকা বিশ্ববিদ্যালয় প্রাঙ্গণে পাকিস্তানের কায়েদে আজম – মুহাম্মদ আলি জিন্নাহ ঘোষণা দেন যে “উর্দু এবং একমাত্র উর্দুই হবে একমাত্র স্টেট ল্যাংগুয়েজ পাকিস্তানের।” এতগুলো বৈষম্যের উপর যখন বাঙালির অস্তিত্বের অন্যতম উপাদান, বাংলা ভাষার উপরও যখন আক্রমণ হলো, তখন বাঙালি জনগন আর মেনে নিতে পারলো না।

২১ শে ফেব্রুয়ারিঃ

সেই ঘোষণার পরে বাঙালি জনতা, বিশেষ করে ছাত্রজনতা বিক্ষোভ আর বিদ্রহে ফেটে পরে। “মাগো ওরা মুখের ভাষা কেড়ে নিতে চায়” স্লোগানে ভরে যায় গোটা দেশ। যখন বিক্ষোভের মাত্রা বেড়ে যায়, তখন পশ্চিমা শাসকেরা ১৪৪ ধারা জারি করে। ছাত্রজনতার সাথে সাধারণ জনগনও ১৪৪ ধারা ভেঙে বিক্ষোভে যোগ দেন।

কিন্তু শাসকগোষ্ঠী শান্তিপূর্ণ বিক্ষোভের উপর আক্রমণ চালায়। গুলিবর্ষণ করে সাধারণ জনতার উপর। মারা যায় অনেক সাধারণ নাগরিক। নির্বিচারে হত্যা করে বাঙালিদেরকে। সেই ত্যাগের কারণে শেষ পর্যন্ত বাংলা কে রাষ্ট্রভাষা হিসেবে মানতে বাধ্য হয় পশ্চিমা শাসকেরা।

ফলশ্রুতিঃ

এই দিনটি যেমন গৌরবের ঠিক তেমনই দুঃখের। অগণিত সাধারণ জনগনের প্রাণ যায়। এটিই বিজয় দিবস এর মুক্তির দিকে প্রথম উল্লেখযোগ্য একটি ধাপ ছিল। এই বিপ্লব থেকেই বাংলার মানুষের মাঝে বিশ্বাস সঞ্চার হয় যে তারা তাদের ন্যায্য পাওনার জন্য সংগ্রাম করতে পারবে। এই স্ফুলিঙ্গ থেকেই একটা সময় স্বাধীনতা দিবস এর জোয়ালা উথলে পড়ে। এখান থেকেই একটি স্বাধীন জাতি হিসেবে নিজেদের প্রতিষ্ঠা করার অনুপ্রেরণা পায় পূর্ব পাকিস্তান ওরফে বাংলাদেশ।

আমি কি ভুলিতে পারি
ছেলেহারা শত মায়ের অশ্রু গড়া-এ ফেব্রুয়ারি

২১ শে ফেব্রুয়ারি যে শুধু বাংলাদেশেই শহীদ দিবস হিসেবে পালন করা হয় তা কিন্তু নয়, ১৯৯৯ সালে ইউনেস্কো থেকে স্বীকৃতি পাওয়ার পর থেকেই ২০০০ সাল থেকে দিনটি আন্তর্জাতিক মাতৃভাষা দিবস হিসেবে পালিত হয়ে আসছে যথাযথ মর্যাদায়। আন্তর্জাতিক এই স্বীকৃতি পাওয়ার মূল কারণ ছিল যে কোন জাতিই নিজের ভাষার অধিকারের জন্য আত্মত্যাগ করেনি। বাংলা সহ সকল ভাষাভাষীর অধিকারকে মর্যাদা দেয়ার জন্যই এই দিনটি আন্তর্জাতিকভাবে পালিত হয়।
