23 January 2016 evening ICE Today organized an event for Fashion enthusiasts titled Project Fashionscape where Daraz Asia Fashion Category Manager Florencia Tonoli and Head of Marketing Bangladesh and Myanmar Sumit Jasoria shared the stage with Maheen Khan, President of Fashion Design Council of Bangladesh.
Florencia started the discussion session with her presentation on “E-Commerce and Fashion” where she highlighted points on how e-commerce helped the fashion industry to grow in various emerginf markets like Pakistan, Myanmar, Egypt, Morocco, Kenya, Nigeria etc. She discussed how e-commerce has helped to set new trends in these markets.
After Florencia, President of Fashion Design Council of Bangladesh, Ms. Maheen Khan discussed the importance of keeping the local fashion industry alive. She shared her experience on how local fabrics like khadican be made trendy. She also highlighted how local fabrics can add to the rural development of the country.
Followed by Maheen Khan’s discussion, Sumit Jasoria, Head of Marketing Daraz Bangladesh and Myanmar emphasized the importance of creating a brand using local industries. He added his observation on South Asian markets, in spite of producing high quality goods in fashion industry people of this region was never able to brand it properly. Branding local goods can bring huge changes in the fashion industry of this region and also support the livelihood of local craftsmen.
There was Q&A session where fashion designers, bloggers, journalists and enthusiasts asked their questions to the speakers.
