কোটি বাঙালির প্রাণের মেলা একুশে বই মেলা লেখক, প্রকাশক ও পাঠকের একটি মহা মিলনমেলা হিসেবে পালিত হয়ে আসছে যুগ যুগ ধরে। স্বাধীন বাংলার ঐতিহ্যবাহী এই মেলার ইতিহাস স্বাধীন বাংলাদেশের মতোই প্রাচীন, যার শুরুটা হয়েছিল অমর একুশে গ্রন্থমেলা নামকরণ এর মধ্য দিয়ে। ১৯৫২ সালের ভাষা আন্দোলনে মহান ভাষা শহীদদের ত্যাগের স্মৃতিকে অক্ষত রাখতেই তৎকালীন অমর একুশে গ্রন্থমেলার যাত্রা শুরু করা হয়, যা আজও অমর একুশে বই মেলা হিসেবে পালিত হয়ে আসছে বাংলা একাডেমী প্রাঙ্গন সহ সোহরাওয়ার্দী উদ্যানে।

“এবার মেলার মূল প্রতিপাদ্য নির্ধারণ করা হয়েছে ‘পড় বই গড় দেশ, বঙ্গবন্ধুর বাংলাদেশ’।”

অমর একুশে বইমেলার ইতিহাস

একুশে বই মেলার ইতিহাস ঠিক প্রায় স্বাধীন বাংলার ইতিহাসের মতই প্রাচীন বলা চলে। সর্বপ্রথম ‘একুশে বই মেলা কবে অনুষ্ঠিত হয়?’ – শীর্ষক প্রশ্নটির উত্তর খুঁজতে গিয়ে জানা যায়, ঢাকা বিশ্ববিদ্যালয় সংলগ্ন বর্ধমান হাউজ প্রাঙ্গনে মাত্র ৩২ টি বই নিয়ে তৎকালীন বই মেলার যাত্রা শুরু হয় ৮ ফেব্রুয়ারি, ১৯৭২ সালে চিত্তরঞ্জন সাহা এর হাত ধরে। সেই সময়ের স্বাধীন বাংলা সাহিত্য পরিষদ (বর্তমানে মুক্তধারা প্রকাশনী নামে পরিচিত) থেকে গুটিকয়েক বাংলাদেশী শরণার্থী লেখকদের লেখা এই ৩২ খানা বই ছিল স্বাধীন বাংলাদেশের সর্বপ্রথম বই মেলার মূল রষদ। মূলত চিত্তরঞ্জন সাহার একার চেষ্টায় গড়া এই বই এভাবেই চলতে থাকে ১৯৭৬ সাল পর্যন্ত এবং ১৯৭৮ সালে এসে তৎকালীন বাংলা একাডেমির মহাপরিচালক আশরাফ সিদ্দিকী এর কল্যাণে বই মেলা সরাসরি সম্পৃক্ত হয় বাংলা একাডেমী এর সাথে। এরপর ১৯৭৯ সালে একে একে বাংলাদেশ পুস্তক বিক্রেতা ও প্রকাশক সমিতি বই মেলার সাথে একাত্মতা প্রকাশ করে, যার প্রতিষ্ঠাতা অবশ্য সেই চিত্তরঞ্জন সাহা নিজেই। অবশ্য বাংলা একাডেমীতে প্রথম অমর একুশে গ্রন্থমেলার আয়োজন সম্পন্ন হয় ১৯৮৩ সালে তৎকালীন বাংলা একাডেমীর মহাপরিচালক কাজী মনজুরে মওলা এর তত্ত্বাবধানে। সেই ৩২টি বই নিয়ে শুরু করা অতি ক্ষুদ্র একটি বই মেলা কালের বিবর্তনে এতই বৃহৎ আকার ধারণ করে যে, বাংলা একাডেমীতে স্থান সংকুলান না হওয়াই ২০১৪ সালে এসে সেটা সোহরাওয়ার্দী উদ্যানে সম্প্রসারণ করা হয়। সেবছর ২৩২ জন প্রকাশক স্টল বরাদ্দ পেলেও একুশে বই মেলায় সর্বোচ্চ সংখ্যক ৪২৫ জন প্রকাশক লক্ষ্য করা গেছে ২০১২ সালে। আপনার মনে প্রশ্ন জাগতে পারে যে, এখন বই মেলা কোথায় হয়? বাংলা একাডেমি ও সোহরাওয়ার্দী উদ্যান উভয় স্থানেই বই মেলা সমানতালে পালিত হচ্ছে বর্তমানে।

বই মেলা সম্পর্কিত যেসব তথ্য না জানলেই নয়

সুষ্ঠু ব্যবস্থাপনার সুবিধার্তে বই মেলায় অংশগ্রহণকারী প্রকাশকদের স্টল সমূহকে বিভিন্ন ভাগে ভাগ করা হয়েছে, যার মধ্যে প্রকাশক এলাকা, প্রকাশক-বিক্রেতা এলাকা, সরকারি-বেসরকারি প্রতিষ্ঠান, শিশু কর্নার ও লিটল ম্যাগাজিন অন্যতম। আর সম্পূর্ণ বই মেলা চত্ত্বরকে বিভিন্ন খ্যাতনামা ব্যক্তিবর্গ বিশেষ করে ভাষা শহীদ সালাম, রফিক, বরকত, জব্বার এবং সাহিত্যিক বিশ্বকবি রবিন্দ্রনাথ ঠাকুর, বিদ্রোহী কবি কাজী নজরুল ইসলাম, বহু ভাষাবিদ ড. মুহাম্মদ শহীদুল্লাহ ও সাহিত্য বিশারদ আব্দুল করিম উল্লেখযোগ্য। এছাড়া বিভিন্ন সরকারি স্টল ও বেসরকারি সেবাদাতা প্রতিষ্ঠান সহ নতুন বই এর মোড়ক উন্মোচন মঞ্চ ও লেখক কর্ণার এবং মিডিয়া সেন্টার ও তথ্য কেন্দ্র এর উপস্থিতিতে বই মেলা আরও প্রাণবন্ত হয়ে ওঠে। মোড়ক উন্মোচন মঞ্চ থেকে প্রতিনিয়ত নতুন বই এর নাম ও লেখক এর পরিচয় ঘোষিত হতে থাকে, আর লেখক কর্ণার বা লেখককুঞ্জে লেখক-পাঠকের ক্লান্তিহীন মত বিনিময় চক্র চলমান থাকে। বই মেলায় প্রকাশিত বইয়ের কপিরাইট বা মেধাসত্ত্ব আইন লঙ্ঘন রোধে একটি বিশেষ টাস্কফোর্স প্রস্তুত থাকে, যারা কিনা সাহিত্য ও শিক্ষাসহায়ক পরিবেশ ও তথ্য নিরাপত্তা রক্ষার কাজেও নিয়োজিত থাকে। উল্লেখ্য, বর্তমানে মেলা নিয়ন্ত্রণ এর যাবতীয় দায়িত্ব গণপ্রজাতন্ত্রী বাংলাদেশ সরকার এর সংস্কৃতি বিষয়ক মন্ত্রণালয় পালন করে থাকে। বিভিন্ন সাহিত্য আলোচনা সভা, কবিতা পাঠের আসর ও সাংস্কৃতিক অনুষ্ঠান বই মেলাকে সর্বদা সরব রাখে।

একুশে বই মেলার ২০২৩ সময়সূচী সংক্রান্ত তথ্য

একুশে বই মেলা ১ লা ফেব্রুয়ারি ২০২৩ এ শুরু হতে যাচ্ছে । ২১শে বই মেলা আগে সাধারণত ১লা ফেব্রুয়ারি থেকে ২১শে ফেব্রুয়ারি পর্যন্ত সাড়ম্বরে পালিত হত, এরপর ক্রেতা-বিক্রেতাদের আবেদনের পরিপেক্ষিতে বই মেলা ফেব্রুয়ারির শেষ দিন অবধি মহাসমারোহে চলতে থাকে। অমর একুশে বই মেলা ২০২৩ -এ প্রবেশের জন্য ছুটির দিন ও ছুটির দিন ব্যাতিত আলাদা আলাদা সময়সীমা বরাদ্দ থাকে। একুশে বই মেলা ২০২৩ সময়সূচী থেকে জানা যায় যে, প্রতিদিন বিকাল ৩ টা থেকে রাত ৮ টা পর্যন্ত বই মেলা চালু থাকবে। সাপ্তাহিক ছুটির দিনে সকাল ১১ টা থেকে রাত ৮ টা পর্যন্ত বই মেলা উপভোগ করতে পারবেন। আর শুধুমাত্র ২১শে ফেব্রুয়ারিতে বই মেলা খোলা থাকবে সকাল ৮ টা থেকে রাত ৯ টা পর্যন্ত। বই মেলায় প্রবেশাধিকার সকলের জন্যই উন্মুক্ত ও সম্পূর্ণ ফ্রী।

বর্তমান তথ্য প্রযুক্তির এই ডিজিটাল যুগে বই পড়ার মানুষ খুঁজে পাওয়াটা কিছুটা হলেও দুষ্কর। তবে কি এই দৃশ্যপট থেকে পরিত্রাণের কোন উপায় নেই? মোখ্যম উপায় অবশ্য আছে এই একটাই; তরুণ প্রজন্মকে বই পড়ায় আকৃষ্ট করতে বইমেলার গুরুত্ব ও প্রয়োজনীয়তা যেন বলে শেষ করার মত নয়। অমর একুশে বই মেলা যেই গুরু দারিত্ব বহন করে চলেছে যুগ থেকে যুগান্তরে। একুশে বই মেলা তো বাঙালির সেই প্রাণের মেলা, যেথায় লেখক-পাঠক এর মহামলনে আপামর বাংলার চিরচেনা সংস্কৃতি ও সোনালি ইতিহাস যেন মিলেমিশে একাকার হয়ে আছে।

আমাদের একটি স্বাধীন জাতি হিসেবে গড়ে উঠার পেছনে কতগুলো খুবই গুরুত্বপূর্ণ দিনের অবদান রয়েছে। এই দিনগুলোতে ঘটে যাওয়া ঘটনার থেকেই আমাদের স্বাধীনতা সংগ্রাম বেগ পায় আর এক সময় আমরা স্বাধীনতা পাই। সেই সব দিনগুলোর মধ্যে একটি হলো ২১ ফেব্রুয়ারি। বর্তমানে এই দিনটি জাতীয় শহীদ দিবস এবং আন্তর্জাতিক মাতৃভাষা দিবস হিসেবে পালিত হয়। কিন্তু এই আন্তর্জাতিক মর্যাদার পেছনে রয়েছে ত্যাগের এবং গৌরবের গাথা।

আগের দিনগুলিঃ

১৯৪৭ সালে দেশ বিভাজনের পর দক্ষিণ-পূর্ব এশিয়া তে নতুন দুইটি দেশ এর জন্ম হয়ঃ ভারত এবং পাকিস্তান। বিভাজন হয় মূলত ধর্মের ভিত্তিতে। হিন্দু সংখ্যাগরিষ্ঠ দেশ হয় ভারত এবং মুসলিম সংখ্যাগরিষ্ঠ দুইটি ভাগ পাকিস্তান হিসেবে এক দেশে পরিণত হয়। পাকিস্তানের দুইটি অংশে ধর্মের মিল থাকলেও অন্যান্য বিষয়ে ছিল অনেক পার্থক্য আর ছিল বৈষম্য। পূর্ব পাকিস্তান ছিল অনেক দিক থেকেই বঞ্চিত ছিল। সামরিক দিক থেকে পূর্ব পাকিস্তানকে পশ্চিমা শাসকরা বঞ্চিত রেখেছিল, সাথে যোগ্য চাকরি থেকেও বঞ্চিত রেখেছিল। অনেক ক্ষেত্রে পশ্চিম পাকিস্তান পূর্ব পাকিস্তানের উপর নির্ভরশীল ছিল। তবে লভ্যাংশ কখনই সঠিকভাবে বন্টন হয় নি। বঞ্চনাও চলতে থাকে।

পশ্চিমা শাসকদের দাম্ভিকতা আরও বাড়তে শুরু করেছিল। ভাষা ও সংস্কৃতি পূর্ব পাকিস্তানে ছিল বাংলা কেন্দ্রিক। আর পশ্চিমাদের মূল ভাষা ছিল উর্দু। কিন্তু ক্ষমতার কেন্দ্রস্থানে হওয়ার কারণে পশ্চিমারা কোনভাবেই বাংলাকে পূর্ব পাকিস্তানের ভাষা হিসেবে মানতে পারছিল না। ঢাকা বিশ্ববিদ্যালয় প্রাঙ্গণে পাকিস্তানের কায়েদে আজম – মুহাম্মদ আলি জিন্নাহ ঘোষণা দেন যে “উর্দু এবং একমাত্র উর্দুই হবে একমাত্র স্টেট ল্যাংগুয়েজ পাকিস্তানের।” এতগুলো বৈষম্যের উপর যখন বাঙালির অস্তিত্বের অন্যতম উপাদান, বাংলা ভাষার উপরও যখন আক্রমণ হলো, তখন বাঙালি জনগন আর মেনে নিতে পারলো না।

২১ শে ফেব্রুয়ারিঃ

সেই ঘোষণার পরে বাঙালি জনতা, বিশেষ করে ছাত্রজনতা বিক্ষোভ আর বিদ্রহে ফেটে পরে। “মাগো ওরা মুখের ভাষা কেড়ে নিতে চায়” স্লোগানে ভরে যায় গোটা দেশ। যখন বিক্ষোভের মাত্রা বেড়ে যায়, তখন পশ্চিমা শাসকেরা ১৪৪ ধারা জারি করে। ছাত্রজনতার সাথে সাধারণ জনগনও ১৪৪ ধারা ভেঙে বিক্ষোভে যোগ দেন।

কিন্তু শাসকগোষ্ঠী শান্তিপূর্ণ বিক্ষোভের উপর আক্রমণ চালায়। গুলিবর্ষণ করে সাধারণ জনতার উপর। মারা যায় অনেক সাধারণ নাগরিক। নির্বিচারে হত্যা করে বাঙালিদেরকে। সেই ত্যাগের কারণে শেষ পর্যন্ত বাংলা কে রাষ্ট্রভাষা হিসেবে মানতে বাধ্য হয় পশ্চিমা শাসকেরা।

ফলশ্রুতিঃ

এই দিনটি যেমন গৌরবের ঠিক তেমনই দুঃখের। অগণিত সাধারণ জনগনের প্রাণ যায়। এটিই বিজয় দিবস এর মুক্তির দিকে প্রথম উল্লেখযোগ্য একটি ধাপ ছিল। এই বিপ্লব থেকেই বাংলার মানুষের মাঝে বিশ্বাস সঞ্চার হয় যে তারা তাদের ন্যায্য পাওনার জন্য সংগ্রাম করতে পারবে। এই স্ফুলিঙ্গ থেকেই একটা সময় স্বাধীনতা দিবস এর জোয়ালা উথলে পড়ে। এখান থেকেই একটি স্বাধীন জাতি হিসেবে নিজেদের প্রতিষ্ঠা করার অনুপ্রেরণা পায় পূর্ব পাকিস্তান ওরফে বাংলাদেশ।

২১ শে ফেব্রুয়ারি যে শুধু বাংলাদেশেই শহীদ দিবস হিসেবে পালন করা হয় তা কিন্তু নয়, ১৯৯৯ সালে ইউনেস্কো থেকে স্বীকৃতি পাওয়ার পর থেকেই ২০০০ সাল থেকে দিনটি আন্তর্জাতিক মাতৃভাষা দিবস হিসেবে পালিত হয়ে আসছে যথাযথ মর্যাদায়। আন্তর্জাতিক এই স্বীকৃতি পাওয়ার মূল কারণ ছিল যে কোন জাতিই নিজের ভাষার অধিকারের জন্য আত্মত্যাগ করেনি। বাংলা সহ সকল ভাষাভাষীর অধিকারকে মর্যাদা দেয়ার জন্যই এই দিনটি আন্তর্জাতিকভাবে পালিত হয়।
